Earn Cashback On Crap You’d Buy Anyways!

Earn cashback on crap you’d buy anyways! Why not?

I fear that I’m one of the few that’s been missing out on easy money by turning up to the “Cashback” party unfashionably late.

And yes, I truly hope you’re also hopelessly behind the times, ‘cause I want to be the one that shows you the light!

So, this blog post is actually a continuation from my previous one – The Shameless Landlord Insurance Renewal Scam To Avoid – did you happen to catch a sniff of it?

Yes? No?

Either way, for the sake of today’s session, it doesn’t really matter if you did or didn’t, but it is the reason why and how I ended up here today.

In short, the post was a cautionary tale about the dangers of blindly accepting landlord building insurance policy renewals without shopping around first, because the offer on the table is usually garbage, and it’s the reason why many of us get our pants pulled down and end up paying through the nose.

My [obvious] tip to avoid overpaying on insurance is to get quotes from services like QuoteSearcher (which I have a wonderful track record with and still recommend) before agreeing to any renewal terms with your current provider, but many people – too many people, actually – also suggested using Cashback websites.

My typical insurance is between £100 and £180 for my properties but by going through TopCashback you get anything up to £90 cashback

TopCashback Insurance

There were several comments sharing similar experiences, which in my mind, felt like smug and scathing attacks on my ignorance. I had no idea cashback deals/services were so popular for insurance products. I felt inadequate. I felt emasculated. I felt like a damn fool. I had to investigate. What else could I earn cashback on (other than insurance)?

Most popular UK Cashback websites!

I signed up to the two most popular Cashback websites in the UK, which were heavily touted in the comments section by fellow landlords:

Please note, I try my best to keep the information of each supplier accurate and up-to-date, but you should read the T&C’s from the agents’ website for the most up-to-date information.

I’m not a religious man, but to quote John [9:25], One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!

There’s a whole new world out there for me, I feel it!

Which Cashback service is better? Hard to say, because they often have different rates for the same retailer, and they don’t have all the same offers, so it’s probably worth signing up to both.

I know, I know, I know!! Many of you have been on the cashback hype for donkey years, utilising those websites and making a killing from them, and you’re probably pointing and giggling at my recent discovery, like I’ve just realised an avocado is a good source of nutrients!

That said, I have been a fan of cashback for years e.g. Cashback credit cards. However, I had no idea how vast cashback websites have become, least of all, a legit means of saving money on such a wide range of useful products and services.

Insurance is just one item on the menu, and I’d go as far as to say that if you do a fair amount of shopping online, you’d be a plonker not to use Cashback websites! The best deals seem to come in the form of everyday services that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find discounts for, like RAC breakdown memberships and phone contracts. But there’s really so much available to earn cashback on, from electronical appliances to dating websites.

Ultimately, earning cashback on crap you’d buy anyways seems like a no-brainer.

How Cashback websites work

  1. Sign up to a cashback service (e.g. TopCashback, Quidco) [it’s free & easy]
  2. If you want to buy something from M&S’s website (for example), click-through to M&S’s website from the cashback website, and then, buy/checkout as you normally would on M&S’s website. The key is to click-through to the retailer’s website from the cashback website (while you’re logged into your account) so the cashback can be tracked back to your account.
  3. You should receive confirmation within 48 hours that your cashback has been tracked.
  4. Cashback will show as ‘pending’ until the retailer confirms your purchase.
  5. One confirmed, cashback is paid into your account.
  6. You can choose to either claim your cashback as a gift card or cash straight to your bank.
  7. Sweet as a nut.

Anyways, I just wanted to share the same nugget others’ shared with me, just in case you’ve also been living under a rock, and missing out on 11% cashback on lingerie from the George collection at ASDA (a current offering that you’d be foolish to sleep on!).

We’re done here!

Thanks as always, and a special thanks to those that left a comment on my insurance blog post and tossed the cashback websites onto my radar.
